Musée YSL and Jardin Majorelle
Forty years of Majorelle's planting, his cobalt blue, and Saint Laurent's archive next door.
The garden came first. Jacques Majorelle spent forty years planting it and mixing the blue he registered under his own name, a cobalt so saturated it reads differently at eight in the morning than at five in the afternoon. Bamboo, cactus, and around fifteen bird species share a hectare.
Next door, the museum holds the Yves Saint Laurent archive: the 1976 Ballets Russes collection, the jackets cut in Marrakech, the drawings. One room of haute couture in low light, rotated periodically from the Paris holdings.
Both require timed entry, booked days ahead in season. The museum closes on Wednesdays. Allow two and a half hours, and take the early slot if you dislike crowds.
