Why it works this way

The curator is paid by you, takes nothing from anyone selling you a rug, and says so to the dealer in front of you — that sentence is the entire product. Two hours is the honest length of a single-curator session; if you fall for something and want to negotiate properly, we hold the car and let it run long rather than pretending the clock matters. The atelier goes first because the benches are quiet by mid-afternoon and a working atelier at three o'clock is just a shop. The rooftop is last because Terrasse des Épices runs two lunch sittings, at 12:00 and 14:00, and then shuts completely between 17:00 and 18:30, so the 14:00 sitting is the only one that fits behind a full morning — and there is no vehicle access, so the last seven minutes are on foot through Souk Cherifia, which is why we walk you in rather than leave you to find it.

Suits: Buyers rather than browsers, and guests who have been sold to in a souk before and did not enjoy it. Party of up to four — both ateliers cap there, and a rug session with more people in the room stops being a session. Avoid Fridays, when the craftsmen break early for the midday prayer; the rooftop is closed 27 July to 13 August.
